Annual Report

Board of Trustees

of the

Jericho-Underhill Water District

P.O. Box 174

Underhill, Vermont 05489

October 1, 2006 to September 30, 2007

The Jericho-Underhill Water District provides drinking water and fire hydrant access to approximately 900 people within the District. During the past year drinking water supplied to the District averaged approximately 52,300 gallons per day, slightly lower than the previous year. During this period the results of State required water tests consistently met water quality standards.

The new Poker Hill tank has been into service since September 2006 and in conformance with Vermont State Water Supply Division rules is being monitored quarterly for volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). All VOC results in the past year have been significantly below Vermont State Water Supply Rule limits or Vermont Health Advisory (VHA) limits and meet and exceed State water requirements.

The Board reports that with the completion of the Poker Hill project and in accordance with State Water Supply Division procedures, the planning fund loan for the Poker Hill tank in the amount of $22,000 will be forgiven in equal increments over the next 5 years.

In addition to work on the Poker Hill Tank, the Board worked on other improvements to the District including installing a new hatch on the Maple Ridge Cistern, removing graffiti from the Maple Ridge Tank, repairing a significant leak at the intersection of River Road and Dickenson Street, and installing  an emergency power transfer switch at the Poker Hill control building.

Repairs and maintenance during the year included, replacing several customer meters, replacing several shut-off valves, and routine system flushing. The District is coordinating with Vermont Gas Systems to insure that water lines are not damaged during the installation of gas mains. Due to Brown’s river stream erosion, the District developed and executed a plan to reroute the power and control signals to the district pumps; this repair was completed in early October 2007

The Board reviewed and approved several requests from customers and developers for water allocation.

The Board wishes to thank its employees and volunteers for their work through out the year. If you are a resident of the District who would be interested in serving the District as a trustee, officer, or employee, please contact the Board. The Board asks District residents and customers to report water related irregularities such as leaks, wet spots, pressure swings, taste concerns, color concerns, etc. In the past customer reports have been key to finding leaks.

The District website is located at http://jerichounderhillwater.org and contains information including regulations, test results, and water usage reports. The Board holds regular monthly, public meetings on the first Monday of each month. These meetings are held at 7:00pm in the basement of the United Church of Underhill located on Park Street in Underhill Flats across from the town green. Residents and voters of the District are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

Peter H. Mitchell, President                Richard H. Eldred, Trustee                Joseph P. O’Brien, Trustee
